- NAFME/MMEA member
- Where do you teach?
- Currently: Howell, Michigan-Music K-5. Past positions: St. Paul – Owosso – K-5 General Music and Middle School Choir (1 year) Webberville Community Schools – K-5 General Music, Middle School & High School Choir and Middle School & High School Drama (6 years)
- Colleges or institutions you’ve studied at and which degrees or certificates you’ve received?
- Eastern Michigan University – Bachelor of Music Education (Vocal)
- Why is MMEA membership important to you?
- MMEA is important to me because it helps provide numerous opportunities for music educators to become better with what we love most, teaching music! Additionally, I love that it has a direct partnership with students, parents/guardians and other educational staff. Opportunities, such as the Honors Choir program or the Composition Competition are all ways that we work together and celebrate music and student success!
- What made you go into teaching?
- I always knew that I wanted to become a teacher, but after my beloved musical aunt passed away when I was in 5th grade I began singing in choir in middle school and instantly knew music is what I was supposed to teach. My choir teacher was always a great support person and she reminded me of my aunt a little bit too.
- When you’re not teaching, what do you like to do?
- When I am not teaching you can find me spending time with my family and friends. My wife, Sarah, is a professional musician as well and we have a beautiful four-year old daughter, Abigail, an orange cat, Pumpkin, and a Pembroke Corgi, Pepper. I love spending time in the kitchen, playing games, and doing various activities outdoors, especially near water! Additionally, I love playing the piano and singing at church as well.
- What do you want music education to look like in 20 years?
- In twenty years, I want music education to be the place where teachers and students can be excited together in the classroom for all that they will learn together and discover how much they can grow through the power of music!
