Similarly, are you a seasoned teacher with a desire to lend your expertise to new music teachers? We are here to connect and support both mentees and mentors alike! 

The new MMEA Digital Mentoring Program matches new teachers with mentors tailored to their needs, speciality, grade levels, etc. If you are interested in joining our Digital Mentoring Program as a mentee OR a mentor, please complete this form.

The purpose of the MMEA Digital Mentoring Program is to provide high-quality mentors to music teachers in Michigan through a digital platform. This includes the following goals:

• Recruit and develop music mentors across the state
• Meaningfully pair new music teachers with relevant mentors
• Provide social and emotional supports for new music teachers 
• Provide a space for new music teachers to communicate with one another
• Create a sustainable resource and community for new teachers and mentors

While schools across Michigan utilize in-district mentoring, many music teachers are paired with mentors from other subject areas, teaching levels, and/or buildings. Research shows that effective mentoring is a multifaceted relationship that involves among other things guidance, collaboration, friendship, and counsel. Music teachers are best served by music-specific mentors. MMEA has the opportunity to play a significant role in this pairing through our digital mentoring program. A digital/virtual platform is convenient and cost-effective for communication, observation, and overall administration.
