Why is MMEA membership important to you?
I became a member of MMEA to connect with and learn from other music teachers in Michigan. Having a support network and access to professional development allows me to provide a better experience for my students!

What other organizations are you a member of?
I am an Orff-Schulwerk certified teacher and member of AOSA.

Total career number of years teaching:
I am currently in my 6th year of teaching.

What colleges or institutions have you studied at and which degrees, certificates, do you hold?
I have a Bachelor’s in Music Education from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and a Master’s in Music Education from Anderson University in Indiana.

What has been one of your most enjoyable moments about teaching?
One of the most enjoyable aspects of teaching has been getting to know my students over time. Whether it’s watching them work toward a performance or seeing their growth throughout elementary school, I’m very proud of how far they’ve come!

What do you want music education to look like in 20 years?
One thing I’m passionate about is ensuring that music teachers, especially those in rural parts of our state, have access to the resources they need. In 20 years, I hope all music educators will have access to professional development, classroom resources, and the means to offer enriching opportunities for their students.

When you’re not teaching, what do you like to do?
Outside of teaching, I enjoy exploring the outdoors by hiking or cross-country skiing. I am also a piano accompanist for music events in my community.
