First Presbyterian Church of Royal Oak, Mi. (PCUSA), a dynamic, Christ-centered, and family friendly church of approximately 500 members, seeks a part-time Choir Director, with an anticipated start date of August 15, 2019.

The ideal candidate will seek to further the mission of the church through their work as an accomplished choir director, and will work effectively with an array of choir volunteers and music professionals.

Position: Adult Choir Director

First Presbyterian supports a 30-member chancel Choir with the addition of 4 paid section leaders. The choir rehearses on Thursday evenings from 7:30-9:00 and typically sings at the 10:30 service on Sundays. The church maintains several Yamaha Grands and a 52 rank Reuter Pipe Organ installed in 2013.


-Prepare and lead regularly scheduled mid-week chorale rehearsals (September through June)

-Prepare for and lead Chancel Choir in all music for Sunday morning worship services (normally one service a week), in addition to services on:

.Christmas Eve

.Ash Wednesday

.Maundy Thursday

.Good Friday

.Easter Sunday

-Prepare and lead Choir, and possible instrumentalists, in several services with a music focus during the church year, normally one in Advent and one in the Spring.

-Encourage and inspire the choir through instruction of music skills and musicianship

– Select appropriate anthems for the church year in consultation with the Director of Music/Organist.

This position reports to the head of Staff through the Director of Music/Organist since attendance at regular weekly staff meetings is not required.
