St. Joseph School has 435 students (pre-K through 8th grade), with average class sizes of 20, in the north Oakland County town of Lake Orion. Oxford Community Schools, providing the Shared Time music program at St. Joseph School, seeks an enthusiastic and caring educator to teach PK-8th grade Music. An ideal candidate would possess strong communication and teaching skills, a willingness to take on extracurricular roles and responsibilities, and a love of music. Although previous experience is preferred, recent college graduates will be considered.



  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate for Grades K-8 in music
  • Must be Highly Qualified in accordance with NCLB
  • Ability to train young and developing musical voices
  • Basic keyboard skills are strongly desired; guitar and other instrument skills are also desired
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with students, parents, and staff
  • Strong communication, technology, and organizational skills
  • Competency in student management and supervision



  • Teach PK-5th grade general music and 6th-8th grade electives, including Choir
  • Coordinate 4th and 5th grade choir
  • Coordinate music for weekly school Mass
  • Plan, prepare, and implement school-wide Christmas program, Spring Concert, Middle School Choir Festival, Solo & Ensemble Festival, and School Musical, other school events
  • For additional compensation if desired, take on band leadership
  • Plan, prepare, and implement instruction and assessments in accordance with school guidelines
  • Successfully manage students in a caring classroom environment
  • Effectively communicate with students, parents, and staff members
  • Differentiate instruction to reasonably meet the needs of all students
  • Support and implement school initiatives
  • Attend to job requirements outside school hours, such as holiday music programs, spring musical, Choir festival
