Don’t Miss These Upcoming Events

Advocacy Updates:
MMEA, in collaboration with MSVMA and MSBOA, will celebrate Music Education Advocacy Day on March 20th at the State Capitol (Lansing). Representatives from each of these associations, along with parents and business leaders, will meet with legislators throughout the day to discuss the importance of equitable access to a quality music education for all Michigan students. A performance featuring three ensembles from K-12 Michigan schools will be presented from 12-1 pm in the Glass Floor Rotunda. We will encourage lawmakers to support two K-5 music education bills, SB 0198 and HB 4349. If enacted, this ESSA-aligned legislation would establish best-practice guidelines for K-5 general music contact time, teacher certification requirements, and for the music classroom teaching environment. We will also discuss the importance of legislative support for specialized music educator PD, and music education access data collection for the new MDE transparency dashboard.
